What is it?
A Harold is a product of spontaneous generation. They sprout out trash piles, compost bins, and city dumps. Because they a comprised of trash, recycled, and salvaged materials, they are truly good for you and the world. They will always be happy to see you no matter what. Sometimes a Harold will explore its environment seeding new trash piles to grow more Harolds when you're not looking. A Harold will bring curiosity, happiness, and joy to those who invite to their home.
How is it really made?
A Harold can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks to complete. It is handcrafted with commercial papier-mache, wire, recycled newspaper, and used foil. The process is so long because once the first layer of papier-mache is applied, it can take up to a week to dry. A Dremmel tool is then used to smooth out the figure. Another layer of papier-mache is put on again to fill in any gaps, add body, or shape the sculpture more. This process of adding the papier-mache, drying, and sanding down can repeat many times until I am satisfied with the end result. Paint and varnish, along with eyelets are applied to top it off. That's it!
